Having type I diabetes myself, I wanted to explore something in my chemistry internal assesment (IA) that had practical application. I researced and found Benedict’s reagent which is a simple to prepare solution that can be used to estimate urine glucose levels and was a predeccessor to the current glucose oxidase test strip electrochemical method. I decided to experiment with a tritration of Benedict’s quantitavive solution which would allow me to compare the validity and reliability of using different volumes of Benedict’s solution to test for glucose levels; aiming to optimise costs by finding the smallest viable volume.
